Driving a semi-truck can be a bit challenging as they are one of the biggest vehicles on the road and take some time to get used to. Here at Tri-County Truck & Equipment, we’ve provided you with some quick tips and tricks to use your semi-truck mirrors so you can keep yourself and those around you safe. The first step to any safe trip, though, is making sure your vehicle is in working condition. For service and repair, bring your truck to our experienced mechanics. We are conveniently located in Pompano Beach, Florida, and our team will be happy to help you with all your trucking needs.

Be Aware of Your Blind Spots

There will be more blind spots as a vehicle gets bigger, so you’ll need to rely on your mirrors. But you won’t have a rear-view mirror to look through in a semi-truck, which is why you’ll have to make the best use of side mirrors to show you the traffic on either side. Obviously, it will be tough for you as anything directly behind you will be blocked from your range of vision.

Mirror Adjustment

While adjusting mirrors it’s not just about mirrors, how you sit is equally important. Get into a comfortable position, preferably the position you would be driving in, and adjust the seat accordingly.

Next, align the semi-truck mirrors to give you maximum visibility, making sure that they allow you to see down the length of your vehicle while also showing as much of the lane next to you. If you need to, you can invest in additional mirrors to improve your visibility, and if your truck doesn’t already come with one, a backup camera for easier parking. Remember that you’ll still have blind spots so proceed with caution in every lane change or turn you make.

After you have adjusted both side mirrors, you should sit in the driver’s seat and look into each of the mirrors to be sure that they have all been properly adjusted. When these check out, you can then move to the convex mirrors which are located below the primary mirrors. Convex mirrors should have the same view as the primary mirrors, with the end of the semi-truck trailer visible. Ensure you get a proper view of everything before you drive off.

Inspect the Mirrors Regularly

Using your semi-truck mirrors effectively can help prevent unnecessary accidents and ensure you are always safe. They can also boost the overall driving experience as you get a better view of things around you, allowing you to make better decisions while on the road. So, always make sure that every mirror on your truck is clean and in good condition before you head out.
